U.S. Army Model 1898 Springfield Armory Krag

Carbine length barrel with the receiver marked "U.S. / MODEL 1898, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" followed by the serial number (306054) that falls out of the Model 1898 carbine serial range (118000-134000). Fitted with a pinned blade front sight and an adjustable rear sight. Long forearm without the hump and a straight grip stock without provisions for a saddle ring. The buttstock has a sling swivel base (with sling swivel hole filled) marked "OALW / 48" and a buttplate with trapdoor. The left side of the wrist is stamped with a boxed "JSA / 1899" cartouche and a restamped circled script "P" behind the trigger.

ConditionVery good as modified from rifle with refinished barrel and box magazine. The barrel has a smooth artificial brown patina and the magazine retains 20% of the case colors, otherwise a mixed patina. The barrel band, trigger guard, and buttplate retain 90% original blue finish with the balance a gray patina. The receiver retains 20% original case colors, otherwise faded to a silver-gray. There is a large filled repair on the buttstock (right side), otherwise the freshened wood is fine with some scattered minor handling marks.
