Description:

This is a rare example of a very late production Baby Nambu pistol as manufactured by the Tokyo Gas and Electric (TG&E) factory in Tokyo. They had a high quality rust blue finish, with a straw colored trigger, magazine release, sear pivot pin and bolt lock with the bolt retaining an overall bright finish. The magazine has a nickel-plated body with an extruded aluminum base. The grips are finely checkered hardwood. The chamber bears the circled "TG&E" proof with the Kanji makings on the right side of the upper receiver over the serial number (6350). The matching serial number (6350) is also visible on the underside of the bolt, the cocking knob and the back side of each grip panel. This example has the very rarely encountered matching serial number on the striker or firing pin. The magazine is numbered 2019 on the rear of the magazine body. These pistols were produced from 1909 to approximately 1923 and is estimated that only about 550 pistols were ever produced by TG&E, with fewer than fifty known to date.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, with 97% of the original arsenal blue finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall, with thinning on the muzzle area, the front edges of the recoil spring housing and the lower edge of the rear grip strap. The various small parts retain 40% of their original straw colors mostly in the protected areas. The grips are in very good condition with nice checkering on both sides with no cracks or damage showing only minor handling marks and light field use overall. The "Baby" Nambu is the most desirable Japanese standard issue semi-automatic pistol and an example of a TG&E pistol that could certainly be the center piece of any Japanese pistol collection.
