Description:

This is an exceptional example of a Colt Super .38 that was manufactured in 1929, the first year of production. The pistol has the Colt high polish commercial blue finish, blue barrel with the top of the chamber polished and is factory fitted with checkered walnut grips. The magazine has a two tone finish, marked "38 AUTO / COLT" on the bottom, checkered arched mainspring, long grip safety and a finger groove on the frame. There is a half-moon front sight and a square notch dovetail rear sight. The serial number is located on the right side of the frame behind the slide release lever hole. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the "W" above the Colt "VP/Triangle" proofmark and the opposite is marked with the number "20". The right side of the slide is marked: "COLT / SUPER .38 / AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line elongated Hartford address and 1897-1913 patent dates. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, 5" barrel, blue finish with grips "Not Listed" and that it was shipped with 15 other guns to H&D Folsom Arms company, New York, N.Y. on May 2, 1929.

Rating Definition:

Near new. The pistol retains 99% plus of the bright original blue finish with a few light scratches and handling marks. The grips are also excellent plus with sharp checkering. The markings are sharp. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptional example of a first-year production Colt Super 38 Automatic Pistol manufactured during the period of Colt's best workmanship.
