Civil War Burnside Breech Loading Percussion Carbine

Manufactured by the Burnside Rifle Co., in Providence, Rhode Island, this carbine has a noticeable guide screw on the right side which allows for smooth operation of the breech as it rides in the corresponding curved groove in the breechblock. The barrel has blade and two leaf sights with "CAST STEEL 1862" marked ahead of the rear sight and "PC" at the breech. The top of the frame has the two line "1856" patent date and the lock plate is marked "BURNSIDE RIFLE Co. / PROVIDENCE, R.I.". There are no visible cartouches on the stock.

ConditionGood, as cleaned and refinished. The carbine retains traces of original blue finish (mostly on the barrel) with the balance an artificial smooth brown patina. The barrel has been buffed and there is a dent on the underside. The frame has a smooth gray patina. The wood is fair with some minor pressure dents and some chipping along the grain near the stock toe. Mechanically fine.
