Description:

1) The Model 1840 saber has a curved double fuller blade, measuring 35 1/4 inches long, with a flat spine and "P.S. JUSTICE/ PHILADa" on the left ricasso. Brass hilt, with a two branch guard, helmet style pommel and wire and leather wrapped wood grip. Iron scabbard, with hanging rings and drag. 2) The saber has a curved double fuller blade, measuring 35 inches long, with a flat spine and "SHEBLE & FISHER/ PHILADa" on the left ricasso. The saber lacks Ordnance inspection marks and was possibly purchased by a State to arm volunteer units. Brass hilt, with a two branch guard, helmet style pommel and wire and leather wrapped wood grip. Iron scabbard, with hanging rings and drag.

Rating Definition:

1) Very fine, with excellent blade, a dark patina forming on the brass, good mild wear on the grip, and dark color and spotting on the sheath. 2) Very good, with mild spotting and handling marks on the blade, a cleaned patina on the scabbard and light grip wear. The sheath shows areas of cold blue touch-up, with pitting and dents.
