The top of the barrel is marked "H.W. WHITE / JACKSON / OHIO". Hiram W. White is listed in Frank Sellers' AMERICAN GUNSMITHS as having work in Jackson, Ohio, Olney, Illinois, and Yankton, South Dakota and specialized in percussion half stocks. Barrel gauges at approximately .45 caliber. Fixed sights with an open dovetail sight slot directly behind the front blade sight. Equipped with a tang peep sight. Solid iron rib on the underside of the barrel, two barrel wedges, bird game engraved lock plate, and brass tipped wooden ramrod. Smooth half stock with pewter forend cap, patch box, and crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Overall the rifle has a smooth brown patina with a mixed gray patina on the action. There is some mild spotting with some scattered minor pitting. The varnished stock has been repaired in the once broken wrist area, otherwise good with some minor dings and scratches. Replaced rear sight. The lock plate fit is poor, most likely due to the aforementioned problem.
