Custom Sharps-Borchardt Model 1878 Single Shot Rifle

The Model 1878 is an internal hammer, breech loading single shot rifle produced from 1878 to 1881. The top of the barrel is marked "OLD RELIABLE SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT. CONN." behind the rear sight and the left side of the receiver is marked "SHARP'S RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN. / U.S.A." over the serial number over the 1876 patent marking. It is equipped with a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards, standing front sight and a sliding trigger safety. Smooth shortened forearm with a single barrel band and smooth straight grip stock with a checkered iron buttplate.

ConditionVery good as modified (forearm shortened). The barrel retains 70% thinned original blue finish with some minor handling marks. The receiver and lever retain 40% original blue finish (mostly on the lever) with the balance a smooth brown patina with some scattered minor spotting. The wood is very fine with a few minor dings and scratches overall. The forearm has some small gouges and the buttstock has some scattered minor pressure marks and surface chipping (mostly right side and top of comb).
