Description:

This unique gun features a two piece cylinder shaped device with a hinged rear portion mounted on the lock which holds a proprietary percussion pellet cap which fits into the center. The head of the hammer has a shield protruding to the outside and the hammer is a rimfire style. The lower portion of the original spring was left and provides the tension for the hinged portion of the device. The only markings on the gun are two Birmingham "crown / crossed scepter B, P, C" and "crown /crossed scepter / V" proofmarks on the barrel under the forearm. The side of the hammer is decorated with floral scroll engraving and the lock has floral scroll engraving at the front and rear, with a hunting dog and game bird in a wooded scene in the center and a zigzag border. The trigger guard is engraved with a running dog in a field scene and it has a decorative, engraved pineapple finial. The barrel tapers from the breech end forward, five sided to eleven sided to round with flared muzzle which measures 1 5/8". The barrel tang has two small holes on the top and has floral scroll engraving. The barrel is finished brown, with casehardened remaining parts. Mounted with a full length checkered walnut round knob pistol grip stock with a flat iron buttplate with a lightly floral scroll engraved 4 1/2" decorative tang, and silver initial rectangle.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains most of the brown finish with some scattered minor pitting. The buttplate has a dark mottled patina with a small amount of minor oxidation. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. Some of the engraving is beginning to fade, but all engraving is clear. The stock is also very good. The toe of the buttplate and stock are bent and dented, overall there are some minor dings, dents and scratches, with crisp checkering. The action is excellent. A very unique pellet primed percussion mechanism.
