Description:

this is an example of one of the Model 1891 Remington Target Pistols that Remington Arms Co. made from 1892-1898 using left-over, over-runs of the U.S. Army Model 1871 receivers and fitting them with a 10 inch half octagon barrel. Fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight on a half octagon barrel marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y." on top of the round section. The casehardened frame is marked "REMINGTON'S ILION N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT. MAY 3d NOV. 15th 1864 APRIL 17th, 1866." There are no inspector's marks on the frame or grips. The number "147" is marked on forearm. Smooth walnut forearm and grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 97% original bright blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The frame retains 98% original case colors. The trigger and breechblock retain 95% original niter blue finish. The hammer retains 99% of the straw color. The forearm has a long hairline crack on the underside. The revarnished grip has a repaired chip near the bottom of the back strap and a minor crack near the bottom of the front strap. Otherwise the wood is fine with most of the varnish remaining and a few minor handling marks.
