A. Carrier Signed Bronze Sculpture of the Goddess Artemis

Measuring approximately 25" tall, this bronze depicts Artemis, the goddess of the wilderness, the hunt and wild animals. Artemis stands with her foot on a barrel, a deer skin draped over her arm and down her back, and a horn at her waist. The sculpture is attached to a square marble base measuring 7" x 7 3/4" x 1 1/2", and is signed "A. Carrier", for Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, (1824-1887) a French artist. Carrier's sculptures covered a wide range of subject matter, but he is more well known due to the fact Auguste Rodin worked as his assistant from 1864-1870.

ConditionExcellent with light handling marks on base.
