This is an example of a commercial production Walther PPK that is chambered in the very desirable 22LR cartridge, that has the 60 degree safety. These PPK pistols chambered in 22LR were produced on a very limited basis through out WWII. This specific pistol is an early prewar production piece that has the single Crown "N" commercial proofs on the top of the slide directly behind the ejection port and the chamber area of the barrel and which also has a "SS" type slide inscription (spuriously applied) on the right side of the slide, along with a raised small silver Nazi spread wing Eagle insignia affixed to the right side of the black grips. The left side of the matching slide has the standard "WALTHER" name inside the banner next to the standard two line factory markings with "Cal. 22" at the end with "PPK" behind the factory markings. The right front side of the slide has been panograph marked ""EHRENPREIS ZUM/ Reichspistolenschiessen/derSS1939", a loose translation is "First Prize for German Pistol Shooting, From the SS 1939". As noted the right side grip panel has a silver German Army/Nazi type spread wing eagle mounted in a raised black plastic base that is shaped or conforms to the outer edge of the Eagle that has been affixed the grip itself. The detail of the Eagle is fairly good which may indicate that it was a breast pin of some type that was later attached to the grip.

Partially customized (inscription and grip) overall with 97% of the original prewar blue finish, showing on minor edge and high spot wear on the edges of the slide and the trigger guard bow. The customized grip is in fine condition with nice sharp checkering on both sides with a couple of minor scratches at the top of the grips on each. This is an interesting conversation piece, but what you are purchasing is an original Walther PPK. 22 with the inscription and eagle added.
