This Second Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle, with the dust cover guide rail secured to the receiver with two screws was manufactured in 1881 with the barrel and magazine tube subsequently shortened. German silver blade front sight and D.W. King buckhorn rear sight on a barrel marked with the two line address/patent dates marking. The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1876." and the serial number is marked on the lower tang with "45-60" on the brass cartridge elevator. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and crescent buttplate with compartment.
Refinished and customized (barrel shortened). The rifle retains traces of the dull blue (mostly in the protected areas) over light pitting with the balance a smooth brown patina with some scattered extensive buffing marks. The sanded and re-oiled wood is very good with some minor dings and scratches along with a couple minor gouges. Mechanically good.
