Manufactured in 1895. This Deluxe Model 1894 rifle features a 24" part octagon barrel and checkered forearm and pistol grip stock. The receiver and bolt are nicely engraved with scroll designs with fancy bordering and a round panel on the left side with a deer in a wooded scene. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY" flanked by simple scroll designs and a zigzag border. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/patent dates, the upper tang is marked with the model designation "MODEL / 1894" and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Blade front sight with an ivory bead, adjustable semi buck horn sporting rear sight and short range tang mounted peep sight. 2/3 magazine, blue barrel and magazine, with casehardened remaining parts, and checkered hard rubber Marlin buttplate.
Very fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 95% original blue finish showing some wear on the muzzle end, some scattered thinning and some high edge wear. The forend cap retains 85% original blue finish with edge wear and some minor spotting. The receiver, take down ring, hammer and lever sides retain 75% original case colors with a smooth mottled brown patina on the balance of the lever. There are a few minor dings on the upper left side of the receiver and a couple of tool marks on the front of the bolt. The wood is fine with exception of a chip of wood missing on top right, much of the original varnish remains, beginning to craze on the forearm and showing overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent.
