This Colt Model 1900 semi-automatic pistol was manufactured in 1902. This pistol has the early and very desirable rear sight safety. The pistol has a spur hammer, slide with serrations at the rear, uncheckered walnut grips and nickel plated 7-shot magazine. The pistol has a high polish commercial blue finish with niter blue trigger and screws. The hammer and sight safety have a color casehardened finish. The pistol has British "Crown/V" and "Crown/P" proof and inspection marks stamped on the left side of the slide behind the grip serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped: "BROWNING'S PATENT" in quotation marks above "PAT'D APRIL 20. 1897". The patent markings are followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." in two lines. The encircled Rampant Colt trademark is stamped behind the serrations on the left side of the slide. The serial number "1454" is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. "PAT'D SEPT 9 1884" is stamped on the bottom of the magazine floor plate. The Model 1900 was the first production Colt semi-automatic pistol. Only 3500 Model 1900 semi-automatic pistols were manufactured and early examples like this one with an unaltered sight safety are very scarce.
