Manufactured in 1881, the first year of production (serial number range below 600). German silver blade and buckhorn style rear sights on barrel marked with the two line address/patent dates "1865-reissue 1880" marking and "45 GOVT". The three-digit serial number is marked on the underside of the frame. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with iron forend cap and buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The rifle retains scattered traces of original blue finish (strongest around the trigger) with the balance between a mottled brown patina and a smooth gray patina. The receiver shows signs of being cleaned some time ago. There is some scattered minor pitting and spotting. The lightly sanded and re-oiled wood is good with some minor dings and scratches (more prevalent on the forearm which has been repaired). Mechanically fine.
