William Westley Richards founded his own company in 1812 in Birmingham. The firm continues in Bournebrook to this day. This shotgun is a conversion from pinfire to hammer. This shotgun features a single bead sight on a smooth solid concave rib with dolls head extension, marked "OCTB 10 PATENTED 1865" and "WESTLEY RICHARDS 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON", with an extractor. Casehardened locks are lightly floral scroll engraved with "WESTLEY RICHARDS" marked on each. The frame, break lever and hammer sides feature the same engraving with fish motif hammer heads. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, barrels and inside of the forearm. Mounted with a checkered forearm with a horn forend, secured by a wedge and straight grip stock with a steel shotgun buttplate. Length of pull is 14".

Rating Definition:

Period refinished with most of the refurbished brown remaining on the barrel. The trigger guard retain most of the heavily polished refinished blue finish with some light spotting. The locks and frame retain 98% vivid refurbished case colors. The wood is good with a small splinter absent on the upper right side of the forearm, and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The checkering remains crisp. The markings are readable. The action is fine.
