Description:

This is an outstanding example of an all original and unaltered WWII submachine gun as manufactured by the Harrington & Richardson company, that was purchased directly from the H&R factory, that is complete with the original serial numbered shipping box. Many of these Reising SMGs were initially issued to USMC units early in WWII and were made in two configurations; one with a fixed wooden stock and the other with a collapsible wire stock. These were considered a substitute standard weapon for the Thomson submachine guns and were eventually replaced by the M3 and M3A1 submachine guns later in the war. They function in a blow-back operated mode and this model is cocked by retracting the cocking handle that is located in the cut out recess on the underside of the forend. The top of the receiver is marked "MODEL 50 H&R REISING --- CAL 45/HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO./WORCHESTER MASS.U.S.A. PAT PENDING". Directly below the rear sight it marked "SAFE/SA/FA", for safe, semi-automatic and full automatic. They feature a short, finned barrel similar to the Thompson SMG, (to aid in cooling) with a integral compensator/muzzle break on the end. They have a fixed front sight with a stamped sheet metal rear sight that is adjustable for elevation only. This specific model has an original dark slate gray parkerized finish on all the metal parts, with a walnut pistol grip stock and a flat sheet metal butt plate. It is complete with one original late production, ribbed side, 20 round stick magazine that is marked "H&R-REISING/ Model 50 --CAL .45 MAGAZINE" on the back side, and the original shipping box. The box is stamped on the lid, with the factory inventory number, serial number, make, model and caliber of this weapon. NOTE: This is a fully transferable, fully automatic NFA Class III Firearm. Prior to bidding, check your state and/or local laws as to whether or not you may own this weapon.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% of the original slate gray parkerized finish overall, with an as new walnut stock that shows NO handling marks anywhere. As noted the Class 3 transfer papers indicate that this SMG was originally purchased from Harrington and Richardson, probably directly from the factory museum when it closed in the early 1990s. Certainly for the discriminating SMG collector.
