Manufactured in 1936. The left side of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked "-WINCHESTER / PROOF STEEL- MODEL 54 - WINCHESTER -/-TRADE MARK- .270 W.C.F.", the left rear and the receiver are marked with the Winchester oval proof, the left side receiver wall is marked "WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-", and the serial number is marked on the right side of the receiver ring, with the matching number marked on the underside of the bolt. The floor plate is marked "-SUPER GRADE-". The top rear portion of the receiver on each side has the cut out to accommodate a clip, found only on the 30-06 and 270 caliber Model 54 rifles. Hooded ramp front sight, with gold bead, rear sight block and Lyman receiver peep sight. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Mounted on a one piece checkered walnut pistol grip stock with a black plastic forend cap, hard rubber Winchester grip cap, cheek piece, checkered steel buttplate and brown leather military style sling with quick release sling swivels.

Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish beginning to thin in areas on the barrel. The bolt handle knob has a smooth dark patina. The stock is also excellent with some overall scattered minor dings, scratches and dents, with crisp checkering. The sling is good. The markings remain clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
