Also included in this lot is a large grouping of items from the descendants of Dr. Daniel Levy Maduro Peixotto (the elder), specifically his son, Moses L.M., Captain of Company G of the 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry and officer in the 7th Regiment Infantry Brigade of the New York Militia, Moses's son Daniel L.M. (the younger), also with the New York 7th Regiment, later Major of the 3rd Regiment, U.S. Volunteers and at the time of his death in 1898 was the Governor and Provost Marshal of Guantanamo, and another grandson of Dr. Peixotto, Captain Ernest Clifford Peixotto, who as director of the Section of Painting of the Corps of Engineering served as one of the eight official artists of the American Expeditionary Force, and later was the chairperson of the American Committee of the Ecoler des Beaux-Arts in France and Knight of the Legion of Honor. This is an interesting group of material from the Peixotto family that spans nearly sixty years, three wars and includes material from Presidents Grant, Harrison, Mckinley and Roosevelt.

Very fine. The barrel cluster retains 80% thinned original blue finish with some minor dings near the breech. The remaining metal surfaces retain 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. Missing a recoil screw and the hammer spring tension screw. There is a gouge on the left grip panel, otherwise the grips are very fine with most of the varnish remaining. The case is good with a few repairs, a couple of missing partitions, a crack on the lid, and worn lining. The Civil War M1850 Foot Officer's Sword is in very good condition; the blade is in excellent condition, the hilt shows moderate wear and retains about 20% of the gold-plated finish. The scabbard is in very good condition; the drag and suspension bands have most of the brown finish and the fish skin cover is worn but completely intact. The M1872 Officers Saber is in very good overall condition; the blade is excellent, the hilt has about 50% of the gold plated finish, all of the fish skin and wire wrap on the grip is intact and the scabbard is in good overall condition with about 50% of the nickel-plated finish and scattered rust spots. The presentation cane is in very good condition with moderate handling wear. The bayonet and accessories are in good overall condition.
