U.S. Springfield Model 1896 Krag Bolt Action Carbine

These carbines were used throughout the Spanish American War and during the early 1900s until the development of the 1903 Springfield rifle. The side of the receiver is marked "U.S. / MODEL 1896, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" next to serial number. It has the original carbine length stock that is fitted with the original carbine saddle ring and sling bar on the left hand side. It has the original short forearm and early style handguard with the barrel band that protects the rear sight. It is fitted with the correct Model 1896 carbine rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards, that is marked with the letter "C" on the upper right hand corner of the leaf, designating it as a carbine sight with the original blade front sight. There is a very faint cartouche visible on the left side of the stock directly behind the saddle ring, a double stamped circled gothic "P" proof in the pistol grip area and "70" stamped directly behind the trigger guard. It has two pieces of the original three piece cleaning rod and metal oiler in the buttstock.

ConditionGood as Arsenal refurbished. The barrel retains streaks of the thin original blue finish mixed with a smooth brown patina. The upper left side of the receiver retains most of the Arsenal applied thin blue finish with smooth silver gray patina on the balance of the trigger guard and a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance of the metal surfaces. The re-oiled wood is good with a hole in the toe and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. There is a non-factory swivel hole in belly of buttstock. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is fine.
