Manufactured from 1876 to the 1880's, these Large Frame Single Action revolvers were also known as the "Army Revolver". This early model features an open top frame, round barrel, scooped cylinder flutes, sliding loading gate and square head butt with a lanyard ring. The front sight is a blade integral to the barrel and the rear sight is a "V" notch just ahead of the hammer on the frame. The revolver has a factory nickel plated finish with casehardened hammer, trigger guard, barrel latch and trigger. The top of the barrel is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & Co. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Jan. 24. Apr. 21. Dec. 15.74. Aug. 3.75 July 11.76. Apr. 17. 77. Pat's Mar.6. 77.", the left side is marked "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich, Conn. U.S.A." and the left side of the frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER M1873", the designation for 44-40 caliber. The serial number is stamped on the butt and the assembly number "1465" is stamped on the rear of the barrel lug, the rear face of the cylinder, on the cylinder pin and on the left side of the frame under the grip. Fitted with brown checkered hard rubber grips. Complete with a tan leather cartridge belt and brown leather AL Furstnow holster. The holster is marked "AL FURSTNOW/MILES CITY MONT." on the lower loop and the belt has no makers marks and is marked "1099 / 38" on the strap.

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% unpolished original nickel finish with scattered minor flaking and wear, and some minor oxidation in two of the cylinder flutes. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled dark patina. The grips are very good with some minor lower edge wear, some light green paint on the bottom of the right panel and moderately worn checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically good. The holster is fine with a crude period "W" carved into the upper loop, showing some minor wear, flex cracking and tight stitching. The belt is fair, with almost all of the inner lining having separated, otherwise some minor wear and flexing.
