Commonly referred to as the New Model or 2nd issue 1-1/2 and manufactured between 1868 to 1875 with a total production of around 100,700. Blade front and notch rear sights, with the barrel rib marked "SMITH & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD. MASS./PAT'D. APR. 3. 1855. & JULY 5. 1859." and matching "ZZ 1" assembly numbers on the barrel, cylinder and right toe under the grip. In addition, the sides of the barrel and frame are nicely decorated with floral scroll and punch dot engraving with scallop border around the address, a scallop band around the muzzle and breech, and above and below the cylinder on the frame. Fitted with ivory grips with relief carved "MDH" monogram on the left panel. Complete in a period wooden case with green felt lining, a compartment with a lid, compartment with a nickel oiler and 35 round cartridge block with 35 original cartridges with "U" head stamp.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains at least 90% original nickel finish with some flaking on the bottom of the frame, ahead and behind the trigger. The cylinder has frosted and shows isolated pitting in a couple of the flutes. The grips are excellent with a few very small hairline age cracks around the screw escutcheon, and showing a very pleasant light patina. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. There is some very slight play in the barrel hinge and the action is excellent. The case is good with some minor chipping of the veneer along one edge of the lid, scattered minor dents and scratches on the exterior and the lining is excellent.
