Description:

This is a nice example of 1 of 525 First Series Match Target pistols shipped to the U.S.N. in 1943. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address over "PAT. DES. 110.887", the left rear of the barrel is marked "MATCH/bullseye/TARGET", the left side of the frame is marked "THE WOODSMAN" over the Ordnance wheel inspection mark, with "G.H.D." inspectors initials on the opposite, and the left side of the slide is marked "COLT" followed by the two line caliber designation followed by the Rampant Colt. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with the letter "e" over the Colt triangle "VP" proofmark, with "23" on the opposite and the serial number is marked on the front strap. Pinned blade front and adjustable target rear sights, serrated trigger, Colt Woodsman Match Target Model marked blue magazine and fitted with checkered brown plastic extended grips with the circled "COLT/rampant Colt" at the top. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, 6 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 525 to the United States Government, Officer in Charge, Naval Supply Depot, Norfolk, Virginia. September 14, 1943. The remarks read "Records also indicate this pistol was packed in Case #22." Complete with a custom wooden case with red velvet lining.

Rating Definition:

Partially refinished. The left side of the slide and left side of the frame in the area of the marking appear to have been professionally touched-up and retain 99% blue finish with some edge wear. The remainder of the pistol retains 95% original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, and some thinning on the trigger guard and front strap. Overall there are some scattered minor scratches and handling marks. The grips are as new. Clear markings. The action is excellent. These pistols usually saw hard use. The case is very good with a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior and the interior has been relined, which is excellent.
