Description:

This is another example of just an outstanding, all original and unaltered pre-war Walther Olympia target model pistol in 22LR that is complete with the original serialized matching Walther box, frame/barrel weights and accessories. These Olympia target pistols were original designed by Fritz Walther for the 1936 Olympic games in which the German teams won five gold medals in the pistol competition and are consider to be one of the finest and most accurate of the pre-war Walther Target pistol designs. This specific pistol has the all steel frame and slide that has the blue finish and is complete with three frame/barrel weights. This "Funfkamph" Target Model has the barrel with the original factory dovetail on the underside to allow for attachment of the barrel weight. It is properly marked on the left side of the slide with the "Walther" banner logo with the two-line Walther slide markings of; "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/ Walther Patent" with "Olympia-Pistole" model markings behind the legend. Directly behind the slide serrations is the full pistol serial number (8810o) with the matching slide serial number directly above that. The right side of the barrel is stamped with the correct double "Nazi Eagle" firing proof and below that the slide is marked "Cal. 22 Long Rifle" (vs. 22 Kurz) which may indicate this pistol was intended for commercial sales outside of Germany or Europe. The right side of the weights for the pistol frame are both stamped "76" and the barrel weight is unnumbered. The top of the slide has a mattefinish and the barrel is fitted with ramp mounted, non-adjustable front sight (which is replaceable, for different heights) with an adjustable target rear sight. This pistol is fitted with a beautiful set of original Walther factory, right-handed, thumb-rest, checkered walnut target grips, and it has the original Walther factory magazine, blue finished, with the brown (extra length) extended finger rest magazine base, specifically designed for this pistol. As noted, this pistol is complete with the original, matching, serialized, brown wood-grain pattern Walther shipping box. The top of the lid is embossed with the large "Walther" banner with the lower right had corner containing the green and white Walther label that reads; "Walther/Olympia Sportpistole/Cal. 22/8810o" with the original owners name hand written on the lower edge of the box. Inside the box are the original accessories, such as the brass cleaning rod; the original instruction/loading sheet in German; the small Walther tin box that contains and original yellow Walther cleaning cloth, patch of cotton material, the small bottle for oil, (which is empty) and the super rare original Walther frame/barrel weight wrench or key, along with a small Walther hanging tag that reads, "WAFFEN/VON WELTRUF/with the WALTHER" banner in the center. These pistols were the inspiration for a number of the Walther experimental pistols such as the MP/AP series. Walther utilized his finest employees to make these Olympias and they are by far the best quality of Walther's production pistols.

Rating Definition:

Exceptional with 99% plus of the original Walther factory blue finish with the only slightest hint of edge wear with a small scratch below the safety lever where it was actuated a couple of times. The breech face is still in the white and shows no evident of firing. The grips are also in excellent condition with nearly all of the original varnish showing only a slight amount of wear or flaking on the front edge of the right grip where your palm would contact the grip, the rear edged of the thumb-rest with a couple of minor handing marks overall. the checkering is sharp with no wear. The box is very good condition overall with a nice light brown color showing some fading of the colors, with the edges and corners of the lid box itself having the cracked or broken out and which have been nicely reglued to strengthen the box, with some old light brown reinforcing tape on the edges and corners of the box itself and the upper portion of the lid. The tin and accessories are all in excellent condition. An extraordinary example of an exceptional Olympic-Sport model pistol.
