Description:

This annual report of the U.S. Chief of Ordnance is a summary of the pistol and revolver trials conducted in 1907 and is 116 pages with 9 photos of the tested handguns. The report provides a glimpse into early 20th century martial arms testing conducted by the U.S. Military with several tests becoming iconic. The automatic pistols tested in 1907 included the .45 caliber Luger, Colt, Savage, Bergmann, Knoble, and White-Merrill. Revolvers tested included the Colt and Smith & Wesson double actions and a Webley-Fosberry automatic revolver. The small group of officers conducting the trials recommended that the Colt .45 revolver should replace the then current .38 revolver and believed that the future in standard sidearms would be automatic but more development and testing needed to be done before selecting an automatic sidearm.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The back and front covers show fading along the edges with a tape repair on the upper left corner and a fold crease near the lower right corner. The front cover has a couple of stains and appears to have had a piece of tape removed. Overall the report shows typical handling wear with all pages remaining bound.
