Description:

This is an excellent example of a Marlin Model 1893 Lever-Action Rifle with the post-1904 "-SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL-" marking roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The rifle has an octagon barrel with full-length magazine. The barrel has a "Rocky Mountain" style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a sporting style rear sight with adjustable center insert. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, hammer, trigger and crescent steel buttplate have a blue finish. The receiver, bolt and lever are case hardened with vivid case colors. The straight grain walnut stock and forearm have a varnish finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "* MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW-HAVEN. CT, U.S.A.* / * PATENTED. OCT. 11. 1887. APRIL. 2. 1889. AUGUST 1 1893*" in two lines ahead of the rear sight and "- SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL-" is boldly roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel below the rear sight. The caliber designation "30-30" is stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. "-MARLIN SAFETY-" is roll stamped on the top of the receiver in script letters with small foliate designs on either end of the marking. The serial number "B8622" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped with the designation: "MODEL/<1893>" with arrows on either end of "1893". In 1905 the tang marking was changed to "MODEL/'93"; the tang and barrel markings indicate that this rifle was probably manufactured c.1904-05. The Model 1893 rifle was the first Marlin lever-action rifle manufactured for smokeless powder cartridges. Between 850,000 and 1,000,000 Model 1893 rifles were manufactured between 1893 and 1935.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The rifle retains at least 99% plus of the original blue finish on the barrel, magazine, forearm cap, loading gate, hammer and buttplate. The receiver, bolt and lever have virtually all of the fiery, vivid, original case colors. The stock and forearm are in excellent condition and retain nearly all of the original varnish finish; wear is limited to an old, minor, chip on the stock near the toe of the buttplate and several very insignificant storage marks. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. The bore is bright. This is an extraordinary example of a Marlin Model 1893 Lever-Action Rifle.
