Manufactured in 1894, this is an example of a Third Model 1873 Lever Action Musket with the dust cover guide integral to the receiver. The top of the barrel has the two line New Haven address and Kings Improvement patent dates marking stamped ahead of the musket ladder rear sight. The musket has the correct pinned front sight. The upper tang is stamped "MODEL 1873" with the serial number on the lower tang. "44 CAL" is stamped on the barrel at the breech and on the brass cartridge elevator. Three barrel bands and sling swivels on a smooth straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The buttplate has a compartment with the five piece cleaning rod included.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 60% faded original blue finish and the receiver retains 70% original blue finish with scratches and dings overall with the balance a smooth brown patina. The buttplate has a mottled brown patina. The lever and hammer retain traces of original case colors. The wood is fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches with a deep gouge on the forearm (left side). Mechanically fine.
