Manufactured circa 1870s with a total quantity estimated at 2,000. Although the derringer does not bear Hopkins & Allen markings, it does appear in their advertising literature. The top barrel flat is marked "XL DERRINGER" with "PAT. APR. 5, 1870" marked on the upper left flat. Fitted with nicely figured rosewood grips. A star is stamped on the lower barrel flat and on the left side of the frame under the grip.
