Late Production 1818 Dated Harpers Ferry U.S. Model 1803 Flintlock Rifle

This rifle has a Model 1803 pattern stock, barrel and brass mountings with the lock marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1818" behind the hammer and eagle shield motif with "US" in the shield ahead of the hammer. The left rear upper flat is marked with "US" in an oval. Brass blade front and fixed iron rear sights. Solid under rib on the forward portion of the barrel, replacement iron and mounted with a smooth walnut half stock with cheekpiece and patch box. There is an inset brass crescent moon on the cheekpiece.

ConditionRefinished and reconverted to flintlock configuration with an artificial aged patina on the barrel. The remaining metal parts have a gray patina with minor pitting on the lock. The brass has an aged patina. The refinished stock is about good with a repaired crack extending 4 inches forward of the lock, on the underside extending from the lock to the trigger guard, from the trigger guard forward 3 inches, and two cracks on the upper left side at the side plate. The stock remains solid and otherwise has a couple minor dings. The action functions properly.
