Description:

This is an early variation of the 1896 carbine of which only 1,378 were manufactured. The left side of the receiver is marked "1895.", "U.S./SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." and "29030". The front sight is a fixed blade with the rear an adjustable 1896 style rear sight calibrated to 2,000 yards. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with finger grooves on the forend, saddle ring, cartouche on left wrist, proof on the bottom of the wrist and a smooth steel buttplate with trap. There is a 3-piece cleaning rod in the trap. With oiler bottle.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal refurbished, 85% of the arsenal blue finish remains with some thinning, high edge wear and some scattered scratches. The wood has been lightly reoiled, has faint cartouches, scattered light dings and scratches overall.
