Description:

This is a King Wilhelm I era officer's helmet of the Garde du Corps or personal body guard of the King. The skull, front peak and lobstertail are gilt metal with silvered edging. There is a large silvered Imperial Eagle wearing a gilt crown at the top. The plate is a silvered rayed star with text around the edge "MIT GOTT FUR KONIG UND VATER LAND 1860" translated to "With God for King and Fatherland". In the center of the star is an enamel colored Order of the Black Eagle icon on a gold background with a white enamel circle around it with gold text "SUUM CUIQUE" translated "To Each His Own". The chin scales are gilt with cloverleaf design ear bosses with black, white and red cockades. The front peak is lined with green leather, the lobstertail is lined with black velvet, there is a tan leather sweat band and a white silk lining.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, the skull, peak and lobstertail have a bright appearance with a few light marks. The silvered components have a dark aged patina. The white paint on the cockades has been lost over the years. The sweat band and silk lining are stained. The peak and lobstertail lining show some wear.
