Description:

This is a Belgian Cuirassier Officer's helmet. The skull and peaks are silvered brass with "452", "V" and "1851" stamped at the rear. There is a tall brass comb with floral, cord and scale pattern decorations. There is a plume holder with a short horsehair plume at the top front of the comb and a long horsehair plume at the back of the comb. The front plate is a large lion's head with a flowing mane. On the left side is a plume holder with a red feather plume. There are large circular ear bosses with a silvered flaming bomb in the center supporting velvet backed chin scales. The front peak is lined with black leather, the rear peak is lined with brown leather and there is a leather sweat band liner.

Rating Definition:

Fair, the skull and peaks show some moderate wear. There are cracks and crude repairs surrounding the red feather plume holder with cracks in the high edges of the lion's head plate and on the high edges of the comb. There is a dent on the right side of the skull. The feather plume is very good, the short horsehair and long horsehair plumes are good.
