This is an example of a very a scarce mid-production Commercial contract Mauser Banner Luger Pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger. The top of the chamber is dated 1937 and it has the standard Mauser Banner trademark on the first toggle. This pistol falls into the range of those generally considered as a standard commercial luger that was neither intended for sales outside Germany or Europe, nor a military or Police contract. The left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel and the left side of the breech block are all stamped with a single "Crown/U" commercial proof acceptance mark with no other proofs on the pistol. The pistol is numbered in the military fashion with the desirable serial number of "4000" stamped on the front of the frame, underside of the barrel and the left side of the barrel extension with the last two digits "00" stamped on various small parts. It is fitted with a single unmarked, blued, folded sheet metal magazine with and aluminum base that is marked with the full serial number "4000" and no other proofs.

Very fine with 90% of the Custom Commercial high polished blued finish remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots with actual blue loss on the side plate hump, grip straps, with the barrel and side plated both having that distinctive purplish tint to the blue finish, typical of the commercial blue finish produced by Mauser during this time. The various small parts are still straw colored and retain 90% of their colors overall. The grips are in very fine condition overall with nice defined checkering on both sides with minimal handling marks showing even honest across the tops of the checkering.
