Description:

This is an excellent WWII German K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff factory that has the standard enlarged receiver which has been fitted with the long side rail type matching serialized scope base and machined mount. This style of sniper rifle was a late WWII improvement that proved to be very robust and required considerably less time to manufacture and assemble. The top of the receiver has the single Eagle/37 Waffenamt proof / bcd/4, the wartime code for the Gustloff factory and "4" for the year of manufacture. The right side of the receiver has a single "Eagle/37" Waffenamt with a small "eagle/1" acceptance proof of the Gustloff factory. The rear of the barrel has the serial number (7865u) of the rifle along with a single eagle firing proof with a second firing proof on the right side of the receiver. The rifle has the correct stamped and milled components, barrel bands and trigger guard/floor plate respectively and it has the correct late war laminated bcd style K98 stock with a single "H" Heers Waffenamt on the left side of the butt stock with a small letter "c" proofmark on the underside of the stock. It has a late war checkered, cupped butt plate with blued screws. The rifle is fitted with the earlier style machined long side rail mount and scope rings and fitted with the early center focus "dow" coded sniper scope. These scopes were made by the Opticotechna firm in Czechoslovakia, with the rear of the scope marked "dow/+/1994". The center elevation knob is correctly calibrated from 1-8 (100-800) meters. The left side of the receiver is fitted with the correct base that is unnumbered and has a single "Eagle/359" proof on the side. The mount itself has a has a single eagle 359 Waffenamt on the side with the serial number (7865u) towards the front of the mount. It is complete with a blued cleaning rod, standard front sight cover hood and leather scope caps.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear and some very light thinning on the exposed barrel in front of the barrel band and bolt body/bolt handle from cycling the bolt. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition overall with a nice matching color and with a GI reglued duffle bag cut under the barrel band. The scope mount and scope are both in excellent condition with a solid 98% blue finish overall, with clear optics and proof marks. The scope caps are in excellent condition. As noted this exceptional rifle has all matching numbers, including the mount.
