This is a nice example of a Late WWII Nazi K98 rifle as produced in 1944 by the Mauser factory, that was fitted with the long-eye relief ZF41 scope. These sights were originally considered as a shooters' aid to help improved hit probability for the trained marksmans and were fitted to select K98 rifles identified by the factory. The scopes attached to the rifles via a small mount fitted to the left side of the rear sight, which required the extended/long eye-relief rifle scope. These scopes were made by numerous manufacturers during WWII with this one being marked on top with "dow/+/ZF 40 (lined through) 41/1" with the mount being stamped on the rear leg serial number 51701, over "duv/Eagle 214" the war time code for the Berlin-Lubecker factory. It is complete with both sun/rain shields on each end. The rifle as noted is a standard K98 produced by the Mauser factory and is correctly stamped on top of the receiver ring with "Eagle/135/byf/44" the wartime code for the factory and the year of manufacture. It has the standard firing proofs with the block "Mod. 98" markings on the side wall. The rear of the barrel has a single Eagle firing proof with a single "Eagle/135" Waffenamt proof on the lower edge at the stock line. It is fitted with a set of late war stamped sheet metal barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. The barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate are all unnumbered with the latter two bearing the Eagle/135 proofs from the Mauser factory. It is fitted with a late war walnut stock and handguard with a cupped sheet metal buttplate with out any stock or Waffenamt acceptance proofs. This rifle is complete with the original front sight cover, cleaning rod and a brown cross-hatched leather sling.
