Introduced circa 1914 this is an example of a Crown Grade L.C. Smith 16 gauge shotgun. The shotgun has double bead sights on a solid rib, 2 3/4 inch chambers, full and improved modified chokes and ejectors. The top of the right barrel is stamped "L.C. SMITH Crown GRADE" with the left barrel stamped "L.C. SMITH GUN CO. INC, FULTON, NEW YORK". Both barrels have a wedge of scroll engraving at the breech. The barrel flats are jeweled, the underside of the barrel lug has a floral engraving, and the rear of the solid matte rib has a gold inlaid band. The casehardened action has a scroll and floral blossom engraving with hunting dog scenes inside an oval on the side plates. Each scene consists of two dogs. The action has a single trigger and a tang mounted safety with the "S" safety marking in gold. The break lever is also engraved and has a gold crown. The engraved trigger guard has the name "ALBERT L. JOHNSON". The forearm and trigger guard are also numbered to the gun. The trigger plate is marked "HUNTER/ONE/TRIGGER". Mounted on a checkered beavertail forearm and pistol grip stock with an added vented Pachmayr recoil pad and a grip cap. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches.
