Description:

Active in the mid to late 1800s in the City of Salem, Tamil Nadu, India, Arnachellum was considered a top producer of knives for the Indian market, as well as overseas travelers. 1) Bowie Knife, 9 5/8 inch blade with "ARNACHELLUM & SONS/SALEM" on the left side near the guard. Dual quillion steel guard, with a lightly curved stag horn grip and a metal pommel cap. With a brown leather covered sheath. 2) Knife, 7 1/4 inch blade with sharpened false edge and no visible makers marks. Hilt and sheath similar to #1, with a riveted pommel and a retention clip on the sheath.

Rating Definition:

Both are very good overall, with a mixed gray patina, sharpening marks and spotting on the blades, and wear and material loss on the sheaths.
