Description:

This is an example of a Winchester Model 1894 Takedown Rifle manufactured in 1894, the first year of production. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever, and buttplate. The rifle has a Lyman front sight with ivory bead, a filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot, and a Lyman tang peep sight. The top of the barrel is stamped with the two line New Haven address ahead of the rear filler block and "38-55" is stamped on top of the barrel at the breech. The matching first year production serial number is stamped on the underside of the frame and the takedown lever is stamped with the June 6, 1893 patent date. The rifle is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with an iron forend cap and crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 90% plus original blue finish with the balance a crisp silver-gray patina. The hammer and lever retain 80% original case colors and the buttplate retains traces of case colors, otherwise a smooth gray patina. The wood is excellent with most of the finish remaining and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
