Deluxe First Year Production Three Digit Number Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with Casehardened Receiver in Desirable 45-90 Caliber with Factory Letter

This is a fine example of an extremely early Deluxe Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1886, the first year of production, in the desirable 45-90 W.C.F. caliber with the casehardened receiver, which Winchester discontinued in 1901. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech end. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-" and the lower tang is marked with the 1884 and 1885 patent dates directly behind the trigger and the serial number to the rear. The barrel is equipped with a silver blade front sight, adjustable rear buckhorn sight. Full magazine tube, blue finished barrel and magazine tube, with casehardened finish on the remaining parts. Mounted with a deluxe checkered walnut forearm with steel end cap and pistol grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock and that it was received in and shipped out of the warehouse on order number 667, October 12, 1893, seven years after it was manufactured.

ConditionVery good. The barrel retains 60% thin original blue finish with the balance a crisp gray patina. The receiver and hammer retain 40% muted original case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The forend cap and the buttplate have a smooth gray patina with the lever a silver gray. The fine buttstock has been lightly cleaned with a bare area on each side and a few minor dings. The forearm is very fine with a small ding on the upper left rear edge and overall the checkering is crisp. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
