Description:

This is an excellent example of a desirable Johnson semi-automatic rifle. These rifles were developed in the late 1930s intending to compete against the M1 Garand for US military contracts. These rifles were not adopted by the US Army but were subsequently used by the USMC "Marine Raider and Parachute Battalions" in the early Makin Island, Guadalcanal and Tulagi Island hopping campaigns in the Pacific. These rifles employed several unique features such as the rotary magazine which allowed reloading at any time, a recoiling barrel which started the cycling of the rifle and the takedown barrel which allowed them to be stowed in a parachute jump bag. The rifle receiver is fairly unique in that it is made from a one-piece casting with the integral perforated front heat shield. The rear, right side of the receiver is marked "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." in a triangle and the top of the receiver is marked with four lines of Patent dates and numbers next to the nomenclature block that consists of "CAL 30-06 SEMI-AUTO/JOHNSON AUTOMATICS"/MODEL OF 1941/MADE IN PROVIDENCE, RI. U.S.A." with the serial number (B7065) underneath. The front flat of the barrel collar has the correct markings of "30-06, above and 41" below the barrel, the later stood for the year of mfg. It has a dark green arsenal parkerized finish with a parkerized/black painted rear sight. The left side of the rear sight is marked, "M2" and the right side is marked "METERS and 0-1000". It has the correct two-piece walnut stock and forend and is fitted with an unmarked Model 1907 leather sling with brass keepers, and an original Johnson Arms bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet is numbered "1921" on the barrel ring and the scabbard is stamped "AMD" on the front and on the back it is written in ink, "26430".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% of the dark green parkerized finish still remaining overall. The excellent stock and forend both have a nice dark brown color overall with light scratches on the lower rear end of the buttstock. The leather sling and bayonet are both in very good condition. An exceptional example of a scarce early WWII Model 1941 Johnson semi-automatic rifle.
