Description:

This is a solid example of a WWII M1 Garand rifle with CMP certificate that was converted into the desirable M1D Sniper rifle and used during the Korean or Vietnam War. The M1D was built using the standard M1 rifles by installing a special M1 Sniper barrel as manufactured at Springfield Armory, flash hider, cheek pad and scope. The barrels were manufactured from approximately Jan 1952 to Feb 1953 and the conversion was done at Springfield as well as other Army Depots. This rifle is marked on the receiver "U.S. RIFLE/CAL 30 M/ SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/3591839" and the barrel is marked "D7312665 MD 34 S A 11 52" and fitted with the Hart M2 flash hider. The bolt is marked "6528257 HRA/U". Walnut stock and handguard set with the correct M1D leather lace on sniper cheek piece marked "MRT 1-52" on the side (screws are absent). The front of the pistol grip is marked with the "circle P" and the left side of the stock above the trigger is stamped with the DOD cartouche. Mounted with a M84 scope with rubber eye shield and marked "SERIAL NO. 23670". Complete with one ammo clip, the CMP "U.S. Rifle, caliber .30, M1" instruction booklet and CMP shipping carton.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished. The rifle retains 97% of the dark black parkerized finish with some sharp edge wear and marks from use and handling. The blue finish on the scope is showing areas of spotting with some oxidation. The wood is fine as reoiled with wear and marks from use and handling. Dings are visible overall with a small chip at the breech end of the handguard. The scope view is clear with some very small spots and a faint yellow tint. Mechanically excellent.
