Description:

This Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol was manufactured by Colt Firearms in early 1943, and was one of few pistols assembled by Colt for military contract using commercial parts that had been left over after commercial production ended for the war effort. The frame is military contract and is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number in two lines behind the slide stop hole. "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" is stamped in front of the slide stop hole. The Ordnance Wheel escutcheon is stamped behind the right grip. The left side of the frame has the final U.S. Army Ordnance inspection mark "GHD" below the slide stop and a "P" proof mark is stamped behind the magazine release. The slide is commercial, serial numbered and matching under the firing pin retainer, and is marked on the left side "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." over the 1897-1913 patent dates, and on the right side "COLT" next to "AUTOMATIC/CALIBER .45" next to the Rampant Colt logo. The slide correctly has the "P" proof on the top between the rear sight and ejection port, and the commercial "S" marking up inside the groove next to the firing pin housing, and has also been altered for the Swartz safety, and has the military wide rear sight and serrated front sight blade. The barrel is blue and stamped "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower left side of the chamber and "P" on the left side of the barrel lug, along with a small "G" and "F" in front of the lug. The trigger is milled with a checkered face. The slide stop and thumb safety lock are checkered, the mainspring housing is arched coarse checkered and it is fitted with the checkered wide spur hammer. The grips are Keyes Fibre manufacture with internal reinforcements and small rings around the screw holes. The pistol is complete with an unmarked parkerized magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus original parkerized finish showing only sharp edge wear, some scattered light scratches, and some thinning finish on the grip straps. The grips are very fine showing some handling, scratches and a smoothed area near the magazine release, with sharp checkering otherwise. Mechanically excellent.
