This rare derringer was the first Remington handgun chambered for metallic cartridge and was manufactured in 1861 and 1862 with only approximately 1,000 produced. The pistol is chambered for 22 caliber and has a six shot revolving barrel cluster. The barrels are cut with zigzag grooves which are part of the revolving mechanism, hence the name "Zig Zag". Each barrel has a inverted "V" rib running the length of the flute with a brass bead sight. The pistol is breech loaded through a hole in the back of the recoil shield. The ring trigger is moved forward and rearward turning the barrels and cocking the internal hammer. The left side of the frame is marked "ELLIOTS' PATENT/AUG. 17, 1858/MAY 29, 1860" and the right is marked "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTONS/ILION, N.Y.". Fitted with smooth brown hard rubber grips.
