A) U.S. Asa Waters Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol

Description:

The lock plate is marked with an eagle head above "A. WATERS/MILBURY, MS/1837" with "WD" stamped upside down near the front of the lock. The breech end of the barrel is stamped "US/JCS/P" with the letter "A" on the left flat. Iron furniture with a button head swivel ramrod. The stock has two inspector cartouches stamped on the left flat. The last U.S. martial flintlock pistol, the 1836 was standard issue during the Mexican War, with many converted to percussion and used during the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol has a bright appearance showing some minor pitting. The revarnished stock is fair with a large chip missing from the grip area and a number of minor handling marks. The cartouches are legible. Mechanically fine.

Description:

Manufactured in 1837 and arsenal converted to percussion circa 1850s. The lock is marked "U.S./R. JOHNSON/MIDDN CONN/1837" and the barrel is marked "JH/P" at the rear. Iron furniture with a swivel button head ramrod and brass blade front sight. The stock has two inspector cartouches stamped on the left flat.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol has a mottled gray patina with minor pitting. The stock is fine with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
