Description:

This is an exceptional example of a documented factory engraved Colt Single Action Army "Frontier Six Shooter" revolver with Colt factory letter that states this revolver was shipped to Richards & Conover in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 18, 1926. The letter lists the revolver caliber as ".44/c", the barrel length as 4 3/4 Inch and the finish as "silver". The letter further states that the stocks are "Ivory with carved steer head motif" and that the revolver has "Grade "2" engraving". The deeply cut floral engraving and relief carved steer head grip are the work of master engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. The revolver has a full silver-plated finish and the two-piece ivory grips are inlaid with nickel-silver Colt medallions. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER 44-40" in a lined panel surrounded by engraving. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/two-line patent markings followed by the Rampant Colt. A "3" and the Colt "triangle/VP" proof mark are stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "535". A "F" inspection mark is stamped in the hammer well. The full serial number, "350108" is stamped on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the backstrap and trigger guard beneath the grip. The rear face of the trigger guard is stamped with the partial serial number "8". All of the serial numbers match. The hammer has the correct borderless knurling on the spur.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus of the original silver-plated finish. The untouched original silver plating is tarnished and shows wear on contact points. The engraving and markings are sharp. The hammer has factory bright polished sides and shows less wear that the other components and appears to be a replacement. The grips are excellent; the ivory has yellowed with age and there are hairline age stress lines present on both butts. The relief-carved steer head shows some handling wear. This is an extraordinary example of a scarce fully documented factory engraved Colt "Frontier Six Shooter" with factory documented relief carved steer head ivory grips.
