Exceptional Presentation Pre-War/Post-War Colt Single Action Army Revolver with the Original Maroon box

This is a scarce late prewar manufactured Colt Single Action Army revolver that was later assembled and sold after the end of WWII in the late 1940s. These prewar/postwar revolvers have been thoroughly discussed in several of the Colt Single Action books, the most note worthy is by John Kopec and the other by Don Wilkerson. This post war revolver was numbered in the prewar serial range. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish and with grips as "Not Listed". The letter states the revolver was charged to "Arms Selling Expense" and shipped as 1 to Mr. Graham Anthony, President of Colt's Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut for Mr. Charles B. Cook on May 25, 1949. At that time Mr. cook was an executive at Royal Typewriter Company in Hartford. (Obviously the revolver was for presentation). The selling of these prewar revolvers during this time directly coincided with the restarting of the production line for the Second Generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers in the early 1950s. The pistol has the Colt high quality prewar blued finish with the color casehardened frame and loading gate. The top of the barrel has the one line address "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the left side of the barrel is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 38 SPECIAL". The left side of the frame has the two-line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The Colt triangle "VP" proof on the left front side of the trigger guard with a single "F" proof on the rear. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, on the right side of the grip straps under the grip and on the inside of each grip panel. The matching assembly number, "893" is marked on the right rear of the frame and on the loading gate. Fitted with the black plastic checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. The revolver is complete with the original hinged lid maroon box numbered to the gun, cleaning brush, test target and "Shooting Suggestions" pamphlet.

ConditionExcellent plus. The revolver retains 98% original blue finish showing a slight drag line and cycling scratches on the cylinder. The frame and loading gate retain 98% original bright case colors with a small area of minor spotting on the loading gate. The grips are as new. The markings are sharp. The action is tight as new. The box is very good with some minor wear on the rear edge of the lid and corner wear. The inside rear edge of the bottom section is torn where the hammer has gouged it from improperly removing the pistol.
