Description:

Manufactered from 1872 to 1874. Approximately 3,014 of these revolvers were chambered for .44 Henry caliber. The included factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and finish with walnut grips at time of shipment. The revolver was shipped on October 30, 1873 to Wexel & DeGress. Although the address was not given, Wexel & DeGress had offices in New York City and Mexico City and many of these rimfires were shipped to Mexico and South America. The revolver has the one line address and patent dates marking on top of the barrel rib. Pinned blade front sight and notch rear sight on the barrel latch. The serial number is stamped on the butt with the assembly number "V475" stamped on the barrel latch, barrel and rear face of the cylinder. The revolver is fitted with two piece pearl grips. Provenace: Gary Garbrecht Collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth-even gray patina showing some mild pitting (mostly on the cylinder). The lanyard swivel on the butt has been removed with a screw filling the hole. The hammer shows faint but distinct case color pattern with the balance now a mottled dark patina. The checkering on the ejector house assembly appears to be done by hand. The grips are good with a few missing minor chips and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A rare variation of the Second Model American often missing in even the most advanced S&W collections beacause so many were shipped abroad. The lieklyhood of them coming back is slim and because of the hard use they were exposed to collectors will find this example hard to improve upon.
