Description:

This Smith & Wesson Model 2 Old Army revolver was manufactured with the rare 4 inch barrel. The included letter confirms the caliber, blue finish and rosewood grips with no barrel length listed. The revolver was part of a 350 gun shipment to M.W. Robinson of New York City, S&W's largest distributor, on November 4, 1870. the top of the barrel rib has the one line Springfield address and the cylinder has the one line patent dates marking. "UO" is stamped on the back of the barrel lug and on the front face of the cylinder. The frame has the three pin top strap. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains 30% original blue finish mostly in the protected areas with the balance a smooth brown patina with some minor pitting. The grips are very good with a minor chip missing from the left panel near the bottom, a few pressure dents and some scattered minor handling marks overall. Mechanically excellent. A rare, often missing variation of the No. 2 Army. Additional information: the same assembly marking "UO" are also stamped on the frame under the left grip.
