Spectacular Smith & Wesson First Model .38 Single Action Baby Russian Revolver with Factory Picture Box

Manufactured circa 1876 to 1877 this is a spectacular example of a blue finished Smith & Wesson First Model .38 Single Action Baby Russian Revolver. Blue finish Baby Russians are less common than nickel finish counterparts. Approximately 6,500 blue finish Baby Russians were manufactured by Smith & Wesson. The revolver has the two line address and patent dates marking on top of the barrel rib. The matching serial number appears on the butt, rear face of the cylinder, barrel latch and barrel. The revolver is fitted with nicely figured oil finished walnut grips. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun. With the revolver is the correct factory green box featuring the picture label on the lid and the directions label on the inside of the lid.

ConditionExcellent. The revolver retains 95% original high polish blue finish exhibiting only delicate flaking from age. The hammer retains 95% vivid and bright original case colors. The screw heads retain nearly all of their original handsome niter blue finish. The grips are also excellent with only a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good showing minor wear with most of the picture label remaining. The finest blue "Baby Russian" that this writer can recall.
