Description:

This is an excellent example of a very desirable and fully operational WWII Japanese Type 99 LMG. This model was developed in 1939 as a replacement for the Type 96 LMG and fired the new, heavier 7.7mm Japanese cartridge. These weapons proved to be very successful throughout the war by all the Japanese forces on all the Japanese held islands and mainland China. They are identical to the earlier Type 96 in configuration and function, but they have a forward mounted folding bipod, a new, finned quick change barrel with a top mounted carrying handle and a fully adjustable mono-pod attached to the underside of the buttstock. These were a very well made machine gun that featured all machined parts with a hard wood buttstock and pistol grip. The right side of the receiver has the four intertwined cannon balls of the Kokura Arsenal, next to the Arsenal inspectors mark with several Kana markings/the series mark/serial number over the show a date of 17.7, (July 1942). It is complete with an original WWII Japanese type 30 hook bayonet as made by the Kokura Arsenal, and the barrel is missing the flash hider. As noted this weapon is fully operational and registered with the BATFE as a NFA/Class III weapon. Included is approximately 60 rounds of ammunition on two stripper clips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original wartime blue finish overall, with light general wear overall with the actual blue finish turning a dark/dull color overall from actual use and firing during WWII. The bolt remains in the white as originally manufactured. The buttstock, pistol grip and carrying handle are all very good, with the buttstock and carrying showing numerous gouges and dents from actual wartime use. The hook bayonet is good also showing considerable wartime use. The LMG could use a good cleaning as there is heavy grease and dirt on the outside of the weapon. This is an excellent example of a late WWII Japanese LMG that is still in fully operational condition. NOTE: This item is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, as a National Firearms Act (NFA) weapon, which has been classified as a Curio or Relic as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Before bidding on this item, it is the sole responsibility and obligation of the bidder/Class 3 FFL holder to comply and understand with all the State and Federal transfer laws and restrictions that apply in their current place of residence. The ammunition is fair with some corrosion.
